In a cozy, soft nest, in the heart of a wood and stone labyrinth, a clockwork mouse sleeps & dreams of the outside world. As it wakes & ventures forth, the mouse will need to make full use of its clever mind & keen senses. The maze will be challenging to navigate, doors leading further on are locked by mysterious puzzles, & unknown dangers may await. The mouse holds onto hope that, despite its past experiences, this time it will achieve its goal: Escape.
Guides the mouse through a maze, starting from the center.
Finds clues & solves puzzles & has dangerous encounters.
Eats cheese!
Discovers the true nature of the maze &, ultimately, how to escape.
This is a true stop-motion game, where everything was hand-animated & the mouse was photographed in place next to physical sets & props. Over 450 video clips were painstakingly created by one animator (mostly in a garden shed) & then woven together in the Unity game engine by one developer to create this interactive experience. Original music was composed & recorded by a single person specifically for the score of the game, & beautiful drawings were created from scratch by our illustrator.
Éalú was made with literally no budget & no crowdfunding, by just 4 people passionate about the project:
Ivan Owen of Beyond the Bark- Game concept, design, animation & writing
Benjamin Orr- Game design, Unity development & writing
Will Wood- Musical composition & writing
JT Paton- Original illustrations & promotional art
Our hope is that you enjoy this interactive experience as much as we all enjoyed making it!
