Description
HEAVY AS STONE is an investigative horror RPG set in 1920s prohibition-era America, inspired by Robert W. Chambers’ The King in Yellow. Play as Amir, a life insurance adjuster suffering from a mysterious affliction spreading through the town of Terminal.Investigate the circumstances of their death. Assign a payout.
Your clients are dead or missing. Locate scenes using your case book and build a coherent narrative using what you learn about each client, the town, and its people. Your decision becomes truth, and you must face the consequences.
Navigate a dangerous city.
The dark underbelly of Terminal hides not only drug and alcohol bootleggers, but also the cult-like followers of the yellow sign and sufferers of the very same illness as you.Do what you need to in order to survive, but beware the toll that irreparable acts of violence take on your mind.
Adapt to your illness.
Your disease, known as the "yellow wound", causes a number of morphing symptoms and hallucinations that can harm your physical and mental health, making it difficult to do your job.
- You will develop Afflictions as you explore, affecting how you navigate the world around you.
- Study Afflictions to learn how to combat them, and to gain Adaptations that help offset the negative effects.
- Intentionally afflict yourself to make use of these Adaptations, provided you can control and combat the Affliction.
- You are seemingly unable to die. Every death leads back to a yellow sign, yet everything done in that failed life seems to have actually happened. The resulting clairvoyance sickness isn't easy to shake off.
